Pimpri Chinchwad: The civic body will remove the temporary bund on the Mula river to reduce the growth of water hyacinth and the resultant mosquito menace.

Manoj Lonkar, the assistant commissioner of the health department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), said, “Debris was dumped in the Mula river to form a bund at Dapodi to stop the water flow and enable the construction of a bridge parallel to the Harris bridge. Municipal commissioner Shravan Hardikar inspected the water hyacinth-affected areas in Sangvi and Dapodi on Thursday and gave directives to remove the debris.”

Lonkar said this will enable stagnant water to flow, reducing the growth of water hyacinth and help address the mosquito menace.”

He also said the work of removing debris from the river had begun and would be completed in four to five days. The civic body has also started removing the water hyacinth in Dapodi and Sangvi through a contractor with the help of two floating machines.
