Metro rail segment casting yard at Wakad to be fully operational soon
Pune: The Metro rail project is expected to gather pace from the next month, when the segment casting yard at Wakad becomes fully operational.
Once the facility is up and running at full capacity, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) said the number of segments cast in a month will increase by half — from 100 at present to 150.
The segment is a crucial component of the Metro rail, as it acts as the base for the track. To expedite the work, MahaMetro had decided to pre-cast the segments at casting yards and install them on Metro piers.
The MahaMetro has already set up two casting yards. The yard at Wakad caters to the 7.1km Vanaz-Civil Court Metro stretch, which requires about 2,500 segments.
